Ugh. I hate routers. I wish there was some way to hardwire everything to the modem and call it good, but since my computer is in another room, this isnt' going to happen.
I bought a Lynksys router about a month ago to replace our third D-link router. It worked good for about two weeks, then I noticed the connection strength started to drop. Occasionally, it would drop altogether. The problem is solved by unplugging the router, waiting a few minutes, then plugging it back in. It's good for awhile, then starts all over again (usually after a few days).
As of late, the connection strength is constantly dropping...like, every day. It really pisses me off, especially when I'm trying to game.
I was unhappy with D-link, I'm unhappy with this product, now I don't know what to do. Is there any reliable router out there or am I stuck with wonky connections forever? I'm considering going back to a D-link. At least I got a full year of service out of their product before going tits up.
Posted by Zoso at December 6, 2008 08:15 AMI had a Linksys that I had trouble with and recently switched to an Apple Time Capsule. It's probably overkill for your needs (it does backup and has a huge hard drive built-in), but an AirPort Express might do the trick.
(It does work with Macs or PCs, BTW - it's just standard 802.11 wireless)
