My Thoughts on the Election

I'm glad Obama won but everybody over here is going nuts. I'm all, "hello, we're not American! Our shitty Government is still here!" XD!

Yeah, I've sort of been :| at the European response as well. Really, unless you live here, how is it possible to know what's best for the US? Things internally are pretty bad here and it's trickling into the rest of the world. One of the reasons Obama garnered my dislike was his speeches overseas. I'm sorry, but the people over the pond can't vote and his attention should've been on us, not them. I was sort of on the fence with him up until that point. It really pissed me off.

I didn't like McCain much either. He seemed the better choice until he picked that cheerleader to be his running mate. Once again, I was like, "Well, she's kinda spunky" then at every turn she made herself out to be an idiot.

After all that, I just resigned myself to the fact my country is doomed.

Hence the ":|" face.

I think it's kind of a fallacy that people outside this country don't deserve attention from our leaders, or our prospective leaders.
As you said yourself, our messed up state of affairs have seeped into their lives as well.
After the last 8 years and the current state of things they certainly have a right to question our judgement and be concerned about our future choices...
That being said when we get involved in other countries/regions (i.e. the middle east) we always make the arguement that it is because what goes on there effects us. So how is it okay for us to assist in removing and electing leaders in other countries when we feel it effects us, but it's not ok for Germans to be worried about our presidential picks?
I think it was a shrewd political move designed to set him apart from Bush. Illustrating a dedication to repairing forgein relationships and the image of America overseas. There are a lot of people who don't want to admit it, but America can no longer survive in this world without the assistance of other nations. We are not self sufficient anymore. Just look at who is loaning us money, making all our goods, mtaking all our jobs and selling us all our energy. We're all tied together now.
I'll be much more concerned when other countries stop caring what goes on here.

You assume I'm of that collective 'we' and I'm not. I'm all for leaving Iraq and the rest of that mess over there to butcher each other. We should never have been there in the first place. And part of our problem as a country is all the damn handouts we give people. Thank god we can't afford it anymore. Maybe now our leaders here will spend their time and money on our own problems and start taking care of their own people.

See, I think we kinda cared about the American election because we get roped into doing stuff (*cough*War*cough*) with America. I wish we'd get our country fixed sometime soon.

Unfortunately, when it comes to the collective "we" you're part of it even if you don't agree with what we (america) are doing. You live here, you're part of it. That's the unfortunate part of a democracy! We've got no one but ourselves to blame, even if you don't vote. "We the people.." and all that.

It's actually a pretty clever way to make sure the people in power don't get blamed for being dopes.
