First Mac Problem?

So as of yesterday, my Mac has decided to turn itself on liberally, after I turn it off. I find much humor in this, as when I had a PC, it was a problem to keep them turned on. I'm not biased to leaving my Mac on, and unplugging it seems to thwart any attempt to reboot itself (it usually takes it awhile to decided to turn itself back on anyway). I usually only shut it off once a week for a couple of hours anyway...but things like this have a way of nagging at me.

I double checked to make sure I hadn't accidently set any waking functions--and I hadn't. The only thing I can think of is that one of the options under power display reads "Wake for Ethernet Administrator". I've never fooled around with this option before, so I assume it has always been checked, and I'm hesitant to uncheck it.

Everything else is running smoothly, from what I can tell. It's just, I'll turn it off, leave for a few hours only to return to my computer being on. I know I shut it down, I watched it and made sure it didn't go immediatly to restart. So I'm not sure what the hell is happening.

*sigh*

Go ahead and turn that off. It's not really necessary unless you are running a server of some type.

Odds are you have something on the computer that is trying to access the network for some reason (does this still happen if you have no programs running?). Copy protection built into software (Photoshop?) will sometimes 'phone home', though I've never personally seen it go so far as to wake up a sleeping computer.

Actually, it's turned completely off. It's very strange. I shut it down earlier and just waited to see how long it took for it to come back on. Nothing happened. And I waited an hour or two. But it's happened twice where I'll shut it down completely, leave the house, and come back home to find it booted back up with that annoying MSN Messenger thing asking me to sign on. Unplugging it, of course, solves this problem (after shut down, of course). LOL Everything else is running just dandy.

It's very strange. I know mom isn't turning it on. She couldn't find the switch without a map. And Dad...well...he could probably figure it out, but I don't know why he would bother. I can't think of any new software on my computer that would, or even could, start up my computer from a complete shut down...

Sorry to hear about this, your mac should still be under warranty right? I don't really remember when you got it, but maybe I'll stop by this weekend and we can troubleshoot. Sorry to hear the mac is causing you drama, I'm sure it's something simple though. I've had my iBook for ages now and it's not had any problems (except when Briar and then Josh knocked it off a table). My older iMac still purrs like a champ, never had issues, and the Mac Mini we have only messes up when I think I'm savvier than I really am and start using the Unix interface = )

If you have time, you can come over and take a look at it if you want. Perhaps I've messed up some settings somewhere that I'm not aware of. Otherwise, I'm really not to concerned. It would be different if I couldn't turn it ON, but since it seems happy to stay in that state...LOL

I got the thing in April, so I hope it's still under warranty. Now that I have a job again, I"ll have to purchase the extended service too.

Anyhoo, it's just really strange it turns itself on. I'm perplexed. LOL
