Taken from a LJ entry:
"Icons take work, and it takes more work after that to make them into banners/color bars. Sometimes minutes, sometimes hours. Either way, comment if you're taking these and credit XXXXXXXX when you use them."
Yes they do take work. So does taking the photographs that icon users use to make these pictures, but I rarely see them credited. So no, I don't think I'll credit you for your icons, since you want to be a bitch about it. Oh, copyright infringement doesn't really work in this case, since you're talking about already stolen content that wasn't yours to edit or take to begin with--and I'm half willing to bet you took the pictures you use to make the icons from someone else who took them from someone else who took them from someone who actually took the time to buy the magazine/books and scan them. See where this is going?
The worst you can do is hate me--and quite frankly, I really don't give a shit if you do (who are you?)
Too bad, so sad.
(note: I will usually credit people's icons, but if they're bitchy about it, I'll just use thier icons out of friggen spite. WTF is the point of crediting icons? Internet fame? If that's the case, you need to get a friggen life outside of 100x100 pixels...seriously.)
Posted by Zoso at February 9, 2006 08:03 PMI make icons an' $#@% all the time, but I don't bother askin' for credit. Well, I mean, since I just doctored the CRAP out of an existing image anyways... (I guess if I DREW it myself, then that's another story. But even then, I don't care what the hell you use it for as long as you didn't say that YOU drew it, you know?) When it comes to icons, credit's a pain in the ass, and I hate putting people through that. I DO however like the fact that friends know that I love to make icons, will spend hours on a request, and know that they can ask me for just about anything because I'm friggin' BEASTLY like that. ... 'Sup. XD
Posted by: J00kst3r at February 11, 2006 11:53 PMYeah, that's exactly where I'm comin from too. Credit is a pain in the ass. Especially if you're zipping through a site and not uploading the icons right away. Besides, does it really matter? And why should I comment if I take an icon? Is this a whole 'big brother' thing?
I can see getting pissed if someone steals something you've drawn yourself. That's your property to begin with. But stuff you've ripped off and edited. Sorry...got no moral grounds to bitch.
BTW, I love your icons! They're so pretty! :P
Posted by: Zoso at February 12, 2006 01:31 AMI hate to play the devil's advocate, but I can understand why people would want credit for their work. Even if it was something that already existed like anime art or a manga, they still put effort into creating an icon from it. I guess it's just the principle of the matter. I draw pictures and such, and if someone took my work without asking I would be furious (I'm paranoid about people claiming my work as their's and such), and while it's not the same thing I do understand the icon maker's point.
I stopped making sense in the second sentence there, I think....
Posted by: Kantama at February 13, 2006 03:49 PMLOL No, you made sense. Devil's advocate is always welcome here!
Posted by: Zoso at February 13, 2006 04:43 PMThat's good, because I tend to play one! I always take the other side if I think they have a valid point, which means I tend to argue for my teachers and such. It annoys my friends sometimes because I point out that the teacher was right in saying such-and-such.
