You know, Walmart is a frightening concept. It's a monster. A terrifying beast that is chewing up speciality stores and spitting them out like fat rinds. Just look at Toys 'R Us. They've stated that competition with Walmart is making them consider exiting the business all together.
Oh no! What will happen to Geoffry the Giraffe?!
For those of you not aware how big a creature Walmart has become, look no further than it's fiscal budget last year! $259 BILLION PROFIT!!!!
Now, in 2005 Walmart is planning to expand its endevors even further by opening 310 new stores, 30 new Sam's Clubs. If this goes on, it's been thought that Walmart will have over 3,000 supercenters (compared to the 1600 now) and have a total sales market of half a TRILLION dollars.
Walmart is already the worlds leading retailer. Yup, the WORLDS, as in it's sales exceed another other sales merchant in the entire world. That's frickin scary. I've been to Walmart...
Now, what I'd like to know is why the hell they can't pay their employees fairly or decently with all this cash they reap in? Hmmmm? Do I smell a monopoly in the works? Microsoft is bad enough, now we have Walmart to contend with....
(Thanks to "Southpark" for title of this blog)

Walmart, to me, embodies pretty much everything that is wrong with this country, culturally. I can barely stand to walk in the door before having to get the heck out as fast as I can.
Anyone who agrees should vote with their pocket-book - in exchange for giving up a few extra dollars, you can support alternative retailers (even relatively large ones, ie. Target) that don't completely dump the concept of selling quality products and services for a reasonable profit in order to undercut the competition.
Posted by: Jeff at November 16, 2004 01:45 AMI rarely go there to buy anything. Back in the day, I use to, but I can't stand the place now. The last time I went there I did as a last resort...which was when I had to buy my new PS2 and they were the only people in town who carried them (seriously! I went everywhere!)
I like Target (we call it "Tar-jea to give it a more elegant pronouncation ;-P). Toy's 'R Us is cool too.
Do you know how many Walmart's are in the Tri-Cities now? 2, with a third one planned in Pasco off of Rd. 68. Isn't that scary! Tell me, why does TC need THREE Walmarts? Pretty soon, there'll be no place else to shop! I hope Fredmyer doesn't go under too! I'll have to go to Walla Walla or Spokane to do my shopping!!!! :-(
Did you see the Southpark when they "defeated Walmart"? Criminy, that was halarious!!!!
