That's the plan my mom and Hunter are talking about for the weekend...Well, actually, I think they (my dad too) are going to see my sister's new house and take a peek at the rumbling mountain.
I'm not too keen on this idea. At first, I said no. There was no way in hell I was letting my kid get close to that ticking time bomb. Of course, this upset Hunter, who really wants to check out what all the hub-bub is about, and my mom just sort of thumbed her nose at me. I finally just shrugged my shoulders and said he could go with them if they didn't take him too close.
I'm still not happy about it, but perhaps I'm being a bit irrational.
It's not like volcano's are predictable or anything, right? (yes, this is sarcasam) I mean, in 1980, people laughed when they said she was going to erupt, and at that time there was a huge bulge in the side of the mountain, growing daily...Then she literally blew her stack, taking out entire side and acres and acres of forest...Oh, and the entire north face disappeared too...No one expected THAT to happen, if I remember right...However, our esteemed scientists assure us that nothing of that sort will happen this time...
Suuuure...
There's about a 70% chance she'll blow soon. Today, for anyone who has watched the news (CNN, MSNBC, etc), you'd know she burped a big ball of steam this afternoon and last night. The earthquakes are still coming too, which means there's magma still moving beneath the surface and the pressure is still rising.
I was stunned to find out that thousands of people were lining the roads, bbqing and hanging out in lawn chairs over the weekend. Some of them were 8 miles from the mountain. That's too close if you ask me...WAY too close...I don't think you could get me with in 20 miles of the thing right now...and I'm not too sure I want my son even that near...
*sigh*
But maybe I'm being paranoid...
But maybe I'm not...
