Dear God is right. These people are complaining nonstop about stuff that hasn't even happened yet. They whine and bitch about the TV version when it'll be just fine. And they complain about the disc count when it's clear that the show cost Funimation a crapload to license.
I can't wait for Naruto to be licensed, because I'm willing to bet that no matter who licenses it - Funi, Viz, Bandai, ADV, whoever - it will also be three episodes a disc. Naruto is going to be the most expensive anime license this year...or any year, and there's no way in Hell that the lucky winner of the license will release it with a high episode count.
Dear God, I wish this madness would just end...

Actually, I have a small piece of art work perpared for that day...(heh)
Posted by Zoso at August 10, 2004 07:16 AMI have to strongly disagree with the comment that FMA is a "kid's anime." FMA is one of the best, strongest most powerful and emotional animes I've seen. When you think kid's stuff you think of Bugs Bunny or Hamtaro or YGO. You don't picture Scar murdering military people, or the military colonizing/massacring a whole race or people while condeming their religious beliefs. If your little kid watches that, good for him. But him watching American Pie wouldn't make it a "kid's movie" either.
Posted by FMA Fan at August 11, 2004 06:48 PMOh lookie! MY first offended otaku! (heh)
Oh, I agree it's very emotional, moving, etc. Those are the reasons I love the show as well...but that doesn't mean it's NOT a kids show. It's a cartoon...made in Japan...FOR CHILDREN...
The only reason people in the US like to lable stuff like FMA, Kenshin, Naruto as "adult" is because A.) the standards are different here in the US than in Japan. Their kids watch all kinds of stuff which would send our soccar moms running for the nearest senator. B.)It somehow makes your delicate otaku sensibilities feel better about themselves.
Whatever...
Oh...and the American Pie reference...couldn't you come up with something better than that? There's a BIG difference from a cartoon and a bunch of kids that run around having sex with each other, their dog, pies, their friends mom, etc...
American Pie was a stupid show too...it wasn't even that funny...
So...you can disagree with me all you want, it doesn't change the facts. FMA is still a kids show...so is Naruto...so is Kenshin...
But you know what...it's okay for you to like it too. There's no law saying Adults can't like cartoons, so I don't know why so many otaku get their panties in a wad when someone points out their favorite show is, indeed, a show targeting kids. It's nothing personal for crying out loud...
Posted by Zoso at August 13, 2004 02:52 AMErm... yeah. You have an interesting way of making people feel welcome. And if I'm an otaku then you are too because you also download fansubs and watch them in Japanese instead of English.
In any case I am glad that you brought up Kenshin because you couldn't have picked a worse example to say that animes are all kids' shows. It ran on CN- heavily censored. And it still got good ratings, enough to sustain it. But then it got cancelled- why?
CN checked, and the people watching were older than CN's "target audience" for advertisers. Instead of finding new advertisers for this new age group, they simply got scared and dumped the show. This was even admitted by some CN person a while ago. I watched Ruroni on CN and liked it, even heavily censored, and it got me into the DVD's and other stuff.
But if Ruroni is a kid's show made for children, why didn't children watch it in numbers and why did so many older audiences watch it in their stead instead?
