That's...rather sad actually. I fear for the human race :(. Seriously, this is incredibly indicative of the generation's attitude towards subjects such as this. Very sad indeed.
This actually reminds me of a conversation I had with a friend of mine. You see, she happens to be a fundamentalist Christian, which kind of clashes with me being an atheist, especially since she is always trying to convince me to join her youth groups, and, "Be saved by the love and strength of Jesus Christ."
Now, I ask you, oh wise and powerful leader: what the hell kind of bullshit is she playing at!? I'm not sitting there, every single day, trying to convert her to atheism, and yet she feels its her obligation to "save" me from damnation!? Honestly, sometimes I worry for the girl. Hell, I'm already beginning to worry about her kids. When I asked her, "Well, what if your kids decide not to follow your religion? Then what?"
In return, I received, most likely, the most shallow, and lazy answer I have ever heard, and I've heard some doozies. "Well, once they turn 18, they'll be adults, and they can do whatever they want. They'll be in God's hands then, and they'll just have to learn to live without my support."
Great, so she's abandoning her kids if they decide not to continue this great religion in her family. Honestly, sometimes i wonder about this girl.
Posted by Gamma Classic at February 13, 2007 05:52 PMIsn't it sad though? This guy seriously doesn't get why everyone is pissed off at him. Frankly, it makes me sick. Perhaps if someone raped him or sexually assaulted him, he'd have a different opinion, but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize that kind of trauma can destroy a person.
Obviously, this guy is no scientist of any kind.
As for your friend. *shrug* That's what fundies do. I'm lucky enough to work with a hard core Roman Catholic--and we get a long great. Sometimes I get annoyed by his ignorant thinking (comments about muslims, gays, views on women, etc.), but he's actually pretty good about keeping to himself. We've talked about religion a few times, but he's never tried to covert me. I once told him I have no interest in organized religion and my relationship with god or whoever runs the universe is personal. Tell your friend that and she should shut up.
As for her comments about kids. I laugh at her. She says that now, but we'll see what happens when the times comes. If she does turn her back on her kids, she doesn't deserve them anyway so good riddance.
Posted by Zoso at February 13, 2007 07:02 PMYeah, I feel that way as well. It's not faith part that I'm against, it's the organized, business entity of it that pisses me off, along with the condemning of people simply because they don't adhere to their dogma.
But, all in all, I've simply learned to listen, but not agree with everything that is said. She's really a nice person when it comes down to it, but her insistence on using faith to solve everything life throws at her is rather unnerving, especially when it concerns her probable children in the future.
Me, I'll accept my children for who they are. I'll try to raise them the best I can, and try to encourage them to pursue their passions. If they end up joining a faith, or decide to come out of the closet at my birthday party, then hey, more power to them, I'll back them up 100%. Basically, I'm going to try and be as open minded as possible, but still retain the guidance and support that parents need to show their children. And I guess, I could only hope for the best when that time comes.
**Pseudo-subject? Does this guy even know what pseudo means? lol :)
Posted by Gamma Classic at February 13, 2007 08:12 PMOh, my God! I am INSULTED and outraged that women are forced to share the same gene pool as this piece of slime! Can we have an impromptu law passed permitting the assasination of Unfortunate Dicks with their heads up their asses, please?
I want a map of this fucker's place of residence. And any home security systems he may have. >/
Thank you for acknowledging how outrageous and corrupt this exquisite idiot's mind can be.
