Being a martial artist, I fail to understand where the logic of putting girls in miniskirts comes into play but I guess it gets the guys in. Couldn't you, you know, do something different, Square Enix? Like some ugly butch guys and some plain looking chicks?

Yeah. Hopefully she comes across as somewhat bad-ass/tough, and they don't do the whole Girl Power!!! thing like they did with X-2.

As a typical male - even one with some martial arts experience - I do. :>

My wife is a martial artist as well, and I've seen her do some pretty capable kicks (side kick, roundhouse, etc) in a skirt. Just playing around, mostly.

Granted, it's not nearly as practical as hakama pants, but...

I saw the trailer for this game and am currently loving the idea of it. It's pretty different from the series more recent heroes and I'm now addicted to the song in the trailer. I'm a girl and it's nice to have a character that probably won't be classified as a staff user/magic user/needs saving at least three times in the game from hero.
The one problems I have if dealing with the fanbois. Every time I go to a forum that mentions XIII all I see is bad comments. "ZOMG! MAIN CHARACTERS A GIRL!!!11!" "I"M NOT GETTING AN PS3 FOR THIS CRAP!" "IT'S GOING TO BE A X-2 REMAKE" "SHE LOOKS LIKE ASHE/YUNA (really, I don't see this one except in the clothing possibly)" "IT'S BE LIKE THE VII COMPLIATION!!!"

I still haven't finished X-2. I thought it was pretty fun, despite the girl power we ROK! crap in it. This chick looks pretty kick ass though. There is hope yet! Maybe she'll be the first female Dante? LOL

Oh, I wasn't saying it's less practical to do martial arts in a miniskirt, just that trousers are the more logical choice. XD Mind you, the martial art I do doesn't involve a lot of kicking, really, so whilst kicks can be done in a skirt, I'm not sure about the rest. It'd probably rip the skirt. O__o (it's ripped trousers before...)

I don't think I'd want to be caught doing a Sweeping Loin technique in a miniskirt though. =[

I forgot to mention that the FF female outfit I liked the most was Tifa's Advent Children outfit. (Never mind the fact she had the skimpiest outfit of all in the original...)
