Interesting. Just this week I got a letter from Student Loans talking about how I had to restart payment because I haven't been in school. Dude, I've been in school for the past 6 MONTHS. I made all these calls, and they're like "A-duuur, you've gotta come down here in person, 'cause we dunno what the fuck you're talkin' about *lol*!" Useless, every ONE! I know exactly how you must feel.
Posted by J00kst3r at May 3, 2006 12:11 AMGood luck student loan hunting! Truthfully, getting the hell beat out of you by a rapid badger is less painful. Then again, I always seem to magically make things more difficult than they really are. Such is my luck.
"You could almost hear the shrug of the girls shoulders over the phone."
Yeah, those people are everywhere. I can't really help you on the loan issue because my loan is only for the state of michigan. (At least I think) Yeah, definately do not come to Ferris if you don't want to deal with people that will not help you or even care if you succeed. My advisor couldn't care less, and its his friggin job to care. Anyway, I wish you luck on your quest for a student loan. Don't get discouraged in your search, you'll find one sooner or later. (Hopefully sooner ^^)
Posted by Mia_Hoshifaia at May 3, 2006 06:30 AMWell... I gave it some thought after I responded to your email last night and I think I understand what has happened.
You've done twelve quarters at CBC, which is 4 years of college. You are only eligble for loans during your first four years. Unless you get your degree and move onto graduate school. Then you get another X amount of quarters at a different amount per year.
I don't know if this means you can't apply directly. I've never done that. Mine come through my FAFSA.
I still think you need to talk to WSU directly. A lot of things raised some flags to me. First you mentioned needing three quarters of forgein language? I was able to use the spanish I took in high school when I applied to WSU.
Also, if you go to WSU, not CBC, I believe you'll qualify for loans and other aid again being that it is a different school.
You don't HAVE to have a general AA to move on to WSU. For the longest time they never marked me down as having one.
You just apply online. They'll list what you need to send (HS and college transcripts) and I believe you'll have to choose a program, so they can do an "Audit" to see what classes will transfer and which won't. And then they'll be able to tell you what you ahve left.
I submitted all my CBC, my South Seattle, and BYU information. And I got credits for all of it.
I would talk to some one at WSU though. I remember talking to CBC people and they were ALWAYS total twits. So where the people at the community college here incidently.
Anyway, you can transfer from one college to another at anytime, whether you've finished the degree or not. Some of your classes may not count for credit there, but you've taken enough that I think you'd probably be in pretty good shape.
Posted by Sarah at May 3, 2006 08:14 AMYeah, I knew that would happen. I was just surprised that I couldn't get loans. I've spent all morning on the phone with different people and pretty much everyone has said, "Too bad, so sad."
It really sucks. I don't know what to do or where to go now. And it pisses me off the people who should know stuff like this, don't. I just finished talking to the WSU lady, she's looking into things for me, but keeps telling me I should go into Worker Retraining. *sigh* How will that benefit me later? I need a Bachelors Degree, not another AA Degree.
Christ.
I'm trying to find out what I can for Private Loans now. I don't have any clue where to start. That's probably going to be my only option. If that doesn't work...well, I'll have to not go to school I guess. If that happens, I'm going to apply for welfare, just so I can get something out of this shitty, swiss cheese government.
GRRRRR~~~~~~~
Posted by Zoso at May 3, 2006 10:52 AMwell you could always just take one class at a time as you can afford it.
where there is a will there is a way.
Posted by sarah at May 3, 2006 12:35 PMThat wouldn't be a problem if I had a steady, stable job. I'd almost prefer to do that. But I'll be laid off in September. If I go to school, I can't claim unemployment...
That's another problem I'm trying to figure out how to fix. I hoped I'd be able to get work through the college, but I have to be enrolled to do that...
