Does that mean it'll be licensed by Viz? I heard things about Funimation and 4Kids...
Posted by LW at March 9, 2006 12:16 PMLOL There's ALWAYS rumors about Funi and 4kids. Personally, I don't have a problem with Funi. Yeah, they were pretty horrible in the beginning, but they've done a fantastic job with Fullmetal Alchemist and several of their newer titles. *shrug*
Basically, the Viz people said that Shueisha is going to keep their products under their company. Since Shonen Jump in Japan (and here) is part of Shueisha, and Viz is as well, you can pretty much count on them keeping their cash cows to themselves from now on (meaning Viz).
Outgoing licenses of anything in Shonen Jump magazine are still possible, but the likelyhood of one of the bigger titles going to someone like Funi or Bandai is highly unlikely now.
From what I understand, Viz isn't going to play the 'bidding game' anymore. I don't blame them; Shueisha already owns the rights to stuff like Naruto and Bleach, so it doesn't make much sense for them to bid on things they already own. Sucks for the other companies though, since Shonen Jump material is often the most popular.
