Oh Dennis Hoffman! It is sooo Wrong to find the Rainman SO hot.
Posted by Sarah at September 5, 2005 06:22 PMMakes you feel like a criminal, doesn't it?
Posted by Zoso at September 5, 2005 06:30 PMI think what people find attractive is probably one of the most diverse human traits. Celebrities probably become more attractive than they would be to us if we had no idea who they are because they are shoved in our faces, airbrushed, digitally altered, and host a staff of professionals to make sure they look perfect at all times. When they are displayed, yet more professionals ensure, they are always displayed in attractive poses or angles.
I, for instance, think Alanis is totally pretty not homely. I also notice that the girl I think is drop dead gorgeous isn't on here at all... Jessica Alba.
Stephen Tyler... these days all he has going for him is rock star appeal. Other than that he looks like he needs to eat and rightfully so, as it appears he could swallow a Buick.
Anyways, I think attractive is a personal thing. It's also only a portion of a person's appeal. How many times have listened to somebody you know who's attractive and thought... you really did trade brains for beauty didn't you. That's not everybody, but it sure is Brittany Spears LOL.
Oh, by the way... that thing about Uma's face... does nobody else notice she has a man's face! Nose and jawline, and her hair always looks like a depiction of extreme split ends... just an observation.
Posted by J at September 5, 2005 11:38 PMYou're right--it does boil down to personal appeal in the end. Which is why I mentioned this was based off of my opinion. It's interesting to see how other's view the different people though.
I think Steven Tyler is hot--and some of it is rock star appeal. However, he wouldn't be Steven Tyler if he didn't have that unique, vivacious charisma that makes him what he is. I think that's incredibly sexy.
As for Alanis, compared to say Angelina Jolie or Faith Hill, she's pretty homely in my opinion. However, I think she's sexy, because she so cool.
I think sexy is about attitude. There are pleanty of stars that are good looking, but they aren't sexy. They're just...pretty...and that's it.
On another note, are you coming over this week?
Posted by Zoso at September 6, 2005 12:17 AMSee, I currently think Barry van Dyke in Diagnosis Murder is hot. I know that was ten years ago and he's probably fifty-something now, but I bet he's still hot. I don't usually equate good looks with sexiness. I think it's just the way they *are* that does it.
It's like Liv Tyler. After LOTR, many people were saying: "Actually, she's not that pretty. Her face is too long or something." She's not perfectly thin (well, she might be now, but I could see a little belly on her that Hollywood!stars are not allowed to have!) but I think she still does sexy. Perhaps it runs in the family? I agree with your view on Steve Tyler! I've not seen Aerosmith, but I've seen the Walk This Way video. ^___^
Posted by DR at September 6, 2005 12:56 AMPersonally, when someone looks sexy, I think it's based on the viewers personality and taste. Everyone has their own "type". For instance, I don't think Eminem is anything special in terms of looks, but one of my friends, who is obsessed with rap, thinks he is the hottest thing alive. And even though Brad Pitt is admittably gorgeous, I've found him to be ugly while playing a certain part in a movie, and also very hot while acting as someone else.
Of course, the celebs wouldn't be nearly as sexy if it weren't for all the help they got. Not only do most stars have personal trainers, they're also able to afford a lot of pampering to inprove their looks (Such as eyebrow waxing, hairstylist, make-up stylist, etc.) and a plethora of hair, skin, and make-up products. Sure, most people have access to these as well, but not the quantity and quality that the stars recieve.
Posted by LW at September 6, 2005 12:55 PMYup, personality has a lot to do with it. Everyone finds different things appealing, which is very cool. I'm glad people have responded to this post. It's interesting to hear everyone's opinions on the matter. :)
