The recent Troy? Hmm. Heard it was a good film, too. Having been forc- I mean, chosen to study most of Homer's works, however, I really disliked the number of divergences the film took from the original poems (and that was just my read-up of it, I never saw all of it properly because I had exams on at that time, heh) =[ I don't mind if they mess up a few facts... artistic license and all that, but really... Agamemnon getting done in the bath was probably my favourite part of the Oresteia. *grumbles a lot*
Sorry, had to throw in my two cents there. ^_^ Inconsistency is my biggest pet peeve. That and the slight covering up of Achilles' love for Patroclus or however they spell it in whatever version.
Still, the best bit? In The Aeneid, they refer to Paris as a wimp, and they cast Orlando Bloom as Paris. ^__^ I don't know why, but that made my day.
Posted by DR at June 12, 2005 07:11 AMHee! It's been a long time since I read the sagas (though I have copies here at home). Looking at a half naked Brad Pitt was really nice...LMAO
Seriously though, I know what you mean about inconsistancies and what not. I can usually over look them, but sometimes they just bug me. The Count of Monte Cristo is a good example. I liked the movie, but it really, really, irritated me that they left out so much stuff (important stuff) and screwed with the ending. They made it a happy ending because....Hollywood thinks everyone needs to have a happy ending...AARRGGGGHHHH!
Well, not all the time. Good-guys still die. Like Braveheart and Gladiator and The Patriot.
LOL
When I was in school, we did a lot of studying Shakespeare. Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth, Midsummers Night Dream, Hamlet. I actually loved them all. I enjoy his work emmensly. I also love Dantes works as well as Chaucer. *shrug*
I like to read. What can I say. Ha ha!
Posted by Zoso at June 12, 2005 08:13 AMDon't talk to me about Chaucer! I've had the two worst English teachers this year and not only did one kill Chaucer for me but I am so not prepared for the exam. BAH. Yeah, we do lots of Shakespeare. I like Hamlet and Macbeth the most.
I found a list with all the stuff they missed out in Troy. It was actually really big. =[ Out of Homer's stuff, I liked The Odyssey best. Sean Bean for Odysseus? Now, THAT, I didn't mind. MmmMmm...
Hey, reading's good! I just wish I had the concentration for it... I would learn a lot. I suppose I comfort myself with the idea that "hey, I can write okay, I'll just do that" which isn't really the best thing to go with. Still, I like to get on with it.
Posted by DR at June 12, 2005 10:51 AMLOL I can feel the Chaucer hate all the way over here! Whew!
:P
Posted by Zoso at June 13, 2005 04:55 PMWhy yes, I do hate it that much. XP
Posted by DR at June 14, 2005 12:29 AMI forgot to mention Beowulf. That's a great tale! I have a copy of it laying around here somewhere. I should read it to Hunter. We bought the "complete" works of Grimm's Fairy Tales and I've been making him read them to me a story at a time. *laughs* He hates it (the reading out loud), but the stories intreague him once he gets into them.
