Why don't you just use gmail, from Google? 2 GB is a lot of space, and it's free. If you need an invite, let me know.
Also, remember that the account I made for you has email as well. Any reason you wouldn't want to use that? There's web-based access and spam filtering (which I can turn on if you want).
Posted by Jeff at May 28, 2005 06:25 PMLOL You have the most unique situations! I've had hotmail for almost 10 years now and never once incurred a problem with their service. I get legions of spam at my hotmail addy because I've had it for so long its got to be on a billion mailing lists LOL. The only reason I switched to .Mac mail was that I was paying for it so I felt I should utilize it. MSN Messenger has never given me issues, AIM on the other hand... it's placed so many links in my system I'll never find them all, and even after changing the preferences it still pops up 2 windows everytime I log in. Which is sad because AIM is a great program on the mac... apparently just sucks ass on PC. Yahoo! Messenger is pretty cool on the PC actually, it's the one that sucks ass for mac. I can say that I once had MSN internet service with the MSN Explorer interface... I've never seen a shotier program! It sucked. If anybody out there is trying to use it for anything whatsoever, abandon!
Posted by J at May 28, 2005 10:10 PMOne of my ITC teachers told me that people with numbers in their e-mail address, particularly in hotmail, are prone to a lot more spam... yours had 22 in it, did it not? I was going to suggest just getting a new account without a number but now that I've seen you pay for it... yeah.
And it's not fair that you pay for such service anyway. I would say I don't really have any problems but now I just KNOW that I'm going to have an undue amount of them. Tch. =/
Posted by DR at May 29, 2005 09:33 AMBy the way, Chapter 1 isn't showing up anymore. It's loading the page but with no text, rather than just telling me the URL is outdated. It's all white. Someone else had that problem and it got resolved, so I think it's merely a case of ff.net hating me.
Posted by DR at May 29, 2005 01:14 PMJeff--I'm using Yahoo now, though I might have you set me up with the dreamhost e-mail. I could use a third account as a primary contact for a few of my e-groups I'm a member of. Thanks!
DR--
I have no clue what's going on. It works for me. I know others have been having trouble too. I'm not sure how to fix it, though I am toying with the idea of placing the chapters on a mirror site for those having trouble. Not sure where yet...but once I figure it out, I'll let you know. I can mail you the chapter, but it hasn't changed from what you read, other than the typos and stuff.
Posted by Zoso at May 29, 2005 02:57 PMSo I decided to test this and see if it would give me the same error message. In IE I experience nothing, but for some reason in Firefox... Hotmail will only let me in about 3 out of 5 tries today. Interesting... perhaps they didn't learn from their first monopoly lawsuit! I've never had an issue with hotmail up until today using Firefox. Bad monopoly (beats MS with a stick)!
Posted by J at May 29, 2005 11:21 PMBTW, Shalaney, The mail through dreamhost that Jeff is talking about, I activated mine, works great, and I have it running through Hotmail and my Mac Mail inbox, so you can probably get it through Yahoo! Along with your typical yahoo mail. I foudn it's a pretty easy way to cut back on the spam. Hotmail and Mac Mail will let me choose a different color for mails from that addres which makes it really easy, if I just give it out to the people I know and give the regular .macs or hotmails out to the online registrations, and amazons... etc I know the red mail in my inbox is always going to be something I will want to open! Just a thought!
Posted by J at May 29, 2005 11:25 PMSweet. I was just wondering if you'd made any other changes an' all (and I wanted to see it on the site, *sniff*). I never had problems with Chapter 1 until about a day or two after I started having problems with 15. In retrospect, maybe ff.net hates YOU instead.
Yeah... maybe it's in partnership with MSN.
Posted by DR at May 30, 2005 02:27 AMDR--
Perhaps ff.net does hate me. *sob* I dunno. It's wierd though. I've had trouble logging from time to time. Ever since they started messing with the server, things seem to be going all wacky.
Posted by Zoso at May 30, 2005 02:44 PMCan't even post reviews now. It's like it's taking over. Slowly. Next I just won't be able to load the site. ;_; I hope it bucks up its ideas soon.
Posted by DR at May 31, 2005 12:53 PMIt seems you got it to work for you finally! ;)
