Comments: THIS is why I'm against Ritalin for kids

Your son and mine have so much in common. Mine was also diagnosed and I have had him off this medication, strattera, for a month. He seems to do much better without it. Defintely do not let them go on Ritalin. Less is more I say. Yours may be a visual learner as is mine. And btw, tennis is good. Mine is a beginner and plays some team tennis. We have been doing it since lat Summer. It helps him to focus and builds confidence. Find something he is really interested in and try to help him as much as possible. The child adapts better when he is encouraged with some one on one time with the parent. Tutoring whenever possible. Mine is into cars and he draws them like crazy. He also likes science which is hands on. Just watch him, you'll learn alot. I would like to hear what this new doctor says when you see him. He is most likely right.

It's always nice to hear from another parent. I've been adamant to not using medication. Hunter isn't hyper, he's forgetful. That's his biggest problem. He can't remember anything short term. Long term...well, he can recall events from when he was 4...*laughs* We're going to have him tested soon for an auditory processing problem. The doctor said it's quite possible not being able to hear well when younger has affected his ability to transfer and process information like a normal person.

He's a very, very creative boy. He draws all the time, is interested in science (natural science), helps out on the game reserve nearby, and can write incredible stories for a 10 year old. I'm hoping to nurture those talents in hopes he uses them as he gets older. I ignored my creativity and am regretting it now that I'm older.
