You're a sweetie. I dunno, maybe I touched the gas while I was sitting at the intersection, but I swear while I was holding the clutch down with it in first the rpm's started going up. I had my slippers on, and the gas peddle is sort of close to the break, so maybe that's what happened...but I don't think so. It sort of jumped when I took it in and out of gear then the revving stopped...it was wierd. I wasn't aware that the clutch could effect RPM's...However, I thought the clutch was slipping a bit lately, I had to have the master cylindar replaced last year...it shifts fine, idle's fine, etc. I drove it around afterwards for a bit and nothing else happened. I let it sit in the drive way too, but again, nothing. Still, I'm taking it in on Monday to have it checked out, plus get an oil change and what not. *shrug* I'm praying it will be under warrenty still if there is something wrong with it...The last thing I need is to pay a million zillion dollars for car repairs...*sigh*

Wow! Well one thing is for sure; if it does cost 2,000 grand (2 million) you probably want a second opinion! = )

Ditching the mockery for a moment... If it isn't under warranty don't take it to the branded dealership. Take it a different repair shop that is licensed to work on your style of vehicle. You can save TONS of money. Remember what Lithia Honda wanted for a tune-up on my Accord? $1200! I ended up getting one for $350 at the repair shop out on Badger, and they were licensed to work on Hondas!

Yeah, no kidding.

I plan to take it to Hyudai Monday (thanks in advance for following me there so I can get home!), and we'll see what they say. I'm praying it's nothing major, but you know me. It's always doomsday when something goes wrong. I have such a crappy out look on things...but I don't want to be shocked at really bad news so I always expect the worst...

Sad huh?

I'll call ya Monday morning (late morning) and we'll figure out what time we will go in. Thanks!

well...it doesnt sound to bad. it is quite possible your right foot did accidentialy depress the gas pedal while holding down the brake. iv edone that before. there are 2 master cylinders, one large one for your brakes, and a second smaller one for your hydraulic clutch. they are 2 totally different circuits. it may be possible the fluid level in your clutch master cylinder may be slightly low. if it is low, and depending on how low may be some concern. if its low there maybe some sort of leak in the system. possibly the line itself, the clutch master clyinder, or the slave cylinder which is down by the transmission. the slave cylinder has a push rod that moves the clutch fork inside the bell houseing between the engine and transmission, which moves the throw out bearing to engauge or disengauge the pressure plate of the clutch.
yes the clutch does have some sort of an effect on engine RPM'S. if you can sort of invision the back of the engine connected to the output shaft of the crankshaft (what the pistons are connected to) there is the flywheel. the pressure plate of the clutch has a friction surface that will contact the face of the flywheel as the crankshaft spins. as pressure increases, the pressure plate grabs onto the flywheel alot stronger, finally linking the engine's output force to the transmission's, then driving the axle, and tires. too low engine rpm's the engine will stall if you try to engauge the clutch. (we've all done this).
if your clutch is starting to slip, you should notice it in the clutch pedal, the distance you need to engauge the clutch will increase. like maybethe pedal moved 1 or 2 inches to engauge, now it may take 3 or 4 for example.

VERY IMPORTANT!!!! dont jump into some big repair job that is going to cost tons of dough. some repair places will try to sell you a repair you dont need, or parts need to be replaced when they dont need to be replaced. sometimes even "showing you the replaced parts" is a scam. our instuctor worked at a shop and another tech had a commonly replaced part in his tool box he'd show the customer saying it was their part, when it belonged to someone else.
i hope i didnt confuse you or create more stress for ya. LMAO
good luck tomorrow, hopefully its nothing. if they say its something serious, let me know. i have excellent resourses now at school to help a huge bunch. i think you have my #, if not let me know. but keep me up to date.

Yeah, I don't know what to think...I drove it around right after it happened...I drove it to the store today...it starts right up just fine. It didn't do anything funny today either...So wierd.

I'm going to take it to the dealer first. It needs an oil changed and they give them to me cheap. The bad thing about Hyundai is that if I let anyone else work on the car, it voids out all aspects of the warrenty...so I'll have to check and see what I have left.

It was the master cylinder to the clutch that went out. They had to replace it and then clean some carbon off of something *I can't remember what* They said they got it all fixed...I shouldn't have so much trouble, considering the car is a 2002 and I bought it with like 12,000 miles on it. I just turned over 30,000...I don't notice any major slipping with the clutch, but I can tell it may be in need of an adjustment or something. It shifts just fine in and out of gear too. It was just that one time that it did something wierd...

*sigh* I'm not as freaked out about it as I was. I mean, there's not much I can do about it if it is broken...I have to get it fixed and that's all there is too it. I just wish this kind of stuff would happen in the middle of summer...not right before I get laid off...

Anyway, I'll let you know what's going on...Thanks so much for your help!
